Purpose of the Essays

Following is Ty’s motivation or purpose for the essays in his own words:

Most of these articles were written to memorialize for the family a few views on some newsworthy event of the day. I suppose that they would today be called "blogs", a term not in use at the time. Another category were those that provided a window into the work that Bettye and I were involved in for over 20 years - medical and dental support, and later, well drilling missions to Honduras. Our own children, and later, our grandchildren, became involved with us in this effort, and we are proud of the fact that all of our grandchildren have now had the same experience.

The final category of articles are four that were written during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina's devastation along the Gulf Coast. Bettye and I made two trips to the region, following in the footsteps of our two oldest daughters, who were among the first to arrive there on non-government sponsored relief efforts. The impressions we experienced during these visits were intense, and the memories are still vivid.
